How I Grew

Near the beginning of the school year, we started a US History unit on women's history, specifically suffrage, the cult of womanhood, etc. I excelled at this, because I'm a lot better at incorporating content with real world applications. To me, excelling means doing something very well, efficiently, and with enthusiasm. This project had three different parts to it. After learning about women's history from the 1820's to now, I created interview questions. These questions asked the views of having a woman running for president, women's rights, and past events. Then, we interviewed an adult of our choice. We also had to write a paper on women's history, but this wasn't as interesting as the digital level we made in the game creating engine Unreal 4. This game level had to have a museum, in which we could walk around, read the paper that we wrote, and listen to the interview we recorded. We had to code a level that other people could use to learn about Women's history, and what we had learned. Two artifacts from this project include my level screenshots, and my final research paper. These things show me how I excelled, because I personally think I did a good job creating them, and learned a lot during the project. As you can see to the left, I created an interior design of a house when practicing for the level later. I had the skill set already to create levels within unreal, so it took very little time to arrange and create furnishings like the railing on the upper floor, and the set of stairs, applying textures to each piece, and creating a sense of lighting. Also, as said before, I created a paper about the development of women's rights. This paper was also pretty easy, as we had spent a good deal of time studying women's rights, and I was already able to write things efficiently. Depending on the size of your screen, you may want to zoom in to read it. During the project, I had to use inquiry quite a lot, as using Unreal involved a lot of problem solving, and finding new ways to make things better. Using inquiry, and skills I already had in Unreal, computers, and writing, I was able to easily excel in this project.
